Cheer FAQ

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

Q: When is Cheer season?
A: 
Traditional: August 1 - Mid November

Q: How are the teams divided?
A: 
Tiny Mites- ages 5, 6, 7; Mighty Mites - ages 7, 8, 9; Jr. Pee Wee - ages 8, 9, 10, 11; Pee Wee - ages 9, 10, 11, 12; Jr. Varsity - ages 10, 11, 12, 13; Varsity - ages 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Q: How do parents keep abreast of what's going on?
A: Check Oakville Watertown Youth Athletic Association website and our Facebook page on a regular basis. When registering, make sure you provide your e-mail address and cell phone number to receive notices about the various team and league activities.  

Q: Is there a mandatory fundraiser? 
A: 
In order to help keep costs down, OWYAA requires that each player participates raffle. Each player is required to sell 20 tickets. Tickets are $5.00 a piece.

Q: Can I volunteer?
A: OWYAA depends on volunteers to coach, manage teams and coordinate all aspects of the program. We welcome your input and time to make the program fun, challenging, and rewarding for the players.

REGISTRATION QUESTIONS:

Q: How much is Cheer registration? 
A:  $300. There is an additional uniform fee of up to $150.
  
Q: How does our family register? 

A: Register online 

Q: Why is registration in the spring for the fall season?
A: While it seems early, there are a number of items that must be completed in spring/summer including team submission to the leagues, uniform and equipment ordering as well as coordinating field time with the town.

Q:  What is the deadline for registration?
A:  Registration deadline dates vary season. Check info on registration page for late fee date and registration closing date. 

Q: What is OWYAA Refund policy? 
A: Prior to first practice - full refund of registration fees, during the first week of practice (M-F) - $60.00 refund, After the first week of practice (2nd Monday of practice) - No Refund

Q: What happens after I register my player? 
A: OWYAA needs a complete doctors consent form (include medical insurance), a birth certificate, a participant application signed by both player and parent, a copy of end of year report card. *No refund will be honored until ALL equipment or uniform pieces have been received by OWYAA.*

CHEERLEADER QUESTIONS:

Q: What equipment does my cheerleader need? 
A: Competition sneakers, competition socks, game bows, competition bows, game uniform (kept at the end of year).

Q: Can I purchase additional equipment for my cheerleader? 
A: Wind pants, Water-Oak cheer jacket are available.
